Report: Egypt Positions New Watchtowers Along Gaza Border
The Palestinian news agency Maan reports that Egypt has begun replacing the old wooden watchtowers along its border with Gaza with steel towers, and that Egyptian border troops are to be armed with weapons that fire rubber bullets suitable for breaking up demonstrations rather than live ammunition.
It was also reported that as part of the war on smuggling, Egypt intends to fence off Egyptian Rafa, from the coast to the Kerem Shalom crossing, and to allow entrance only through a gate equipped with weapons-sensing detectors.
